Carrier Lock vs. iCloud Activation Lock — Critical Distinction

iPhones can have two completely separate restrictions that are often confused. This service only addresses carrier SIM lock. Make sure you know which type your device has before paying for any service.

✓ Carrier SIM Lock — We Can Assist

Your iPhone works normally but only accepts SIM cards from the original carrier. Inserting another carrier's SIM shows "SIM Not Supported," "Invalid SIM," or similar. The phone boots and runs fine with the original carrier's SIM inserted.

✗ iCloud Activation Lock — Not Covered

The phone is stuck on a setup screen asking for the previous owner's Apple ID and password. The phone cannot be set up at all, or a "This device is linked to an Apple ID" screen appears. This is a separate Apple account security feature — carrier unlock cannot resolve it.

⚠ If your iPhone shows a "Connect to iTunes" or Activation Lock screen, this is an iCloud Activation Lock — not a carrier issue. No carrier unlock service resolves this. To remove an iCloud Activation Lock, the original Apple ID holder must sign in at appleid.apple.com and remove the device, or you must contact Apple directly with proof of purchase.

How to Check Whether Your iPhone Is Carrier-Locked

On iOS 14 or later, the fastest way is in Settings:

  1. Open Settings → General → About
  2. Scroll down to Carrier Lock
  3. If it reads "No SIM restrictions", your iPhone is already unlocked
  4. If it names a carrier (e.g., "AT&T" or "T-Mobile"), it is locked to that carrier

Alternatively, insert a SIM card from a different carrier. If the phone shows an error or "Invalid SIM," the device is carrier-locked. The free IMEI format checker on our homepage validates your IMEI number format — it does not check carrier lock status or eligibility.

Carrier Unlock Eligibility for iPhones

Carrier eligibility requirements for iPhones are set by the original carrier, not by Apple. Common requirements include:

If your iPhone is fully paid off and you are the original account holder, your carrier may offer a free direct unlock request. We recommend checking with your carrier first before purchasing this service.

What Happens After a Successful Carrier Unlock

When a carrier approves an unlock request for an iPhone, the unlock is delivered over-the-air via a profile update. You typically restore or update your iPhone through iTunes/Finder, or simply back up and restore. Once unlocked:

💡 Note on eSIM models: iPhones from iPhone XS/XR onward support eSIM in addition to a physical SIM. A carrier unlock allows both physical SIM and eSIM slots to accept other carriers, subject to carrier eSIM policies.
